    EKII Spange

Just received this EKII L/16 spange, it is different as it only has two pins on the back. What do you think about this setup/spange overall? Thanks, Jim

I think the wings and shoulders on Jim's does not macth is not a correct match to Robert's...or is that my hangovers that make it appear like that?

If memory serves me right, I had a very good look at that one, but couldn´t make out if it was original or not, so I passed.

I keep my fingers crossed for you Jim!

          Some More

My camera's battery died before I could complete photographing. In this picture you will see the date and head close-up. I am waiting on Jon to view before I post some more information.

            very interesting Jim
I've not seen a two prong L/16 before, and I just trawled my files too (nothing) and compared to L/16 prinzen, and even mini ribbon bar spangen, nothing

But I see nothing to doubt this piece
and even though we havn't seen them, but it's not crazy to believe that L/16 produced a limited number for the ribbonbar
I'd give it a thumbs up, a nice L/16 variation, and nice to see something new!
where's it from? any more info?
            regards
            jon

              The Rest of the story

              Thanks Jon,

The interesting part is the measurements:

              Height: 30.48 mm
              Width: 30.14 mm
              Thickness: 1.95
              Weight: 6 grams

              Compared to four prong:

              Weight: 8 grams
              Height: 30.79 mm
Width: 30.49 mm (wing tip to wing tip)
              Thickness: 2.22 mm
              Metal: tombak
              Model: 2nd

I bought it from Sammler-Cabinett in Germany.

              Jim

that sounds OK to me, it'd weigh less with less prongs, and height and width seem to be down to filing. The 'cutter' seemed a little off, maybe needing a tad more filing on the bottom? what do you think? I thnk you've got one hell of a rare variation you bstard!
                regards

I do not find these to be a wery good match. I see differences in the pebbling also.
I have nothing against that it only has two prongesm that have been seen before. But it looks rather crude to me, in the finishing.

                  That is just my opinion.

                    Spange

The finish is actually a shadow, I will take it outside tomorrow and try and get some natural pictures, as it is solid silver in color. Jim

I can't help thinking that there are something strange about this S&L Spange shown by Jim.

The pronges look like they have been added after the finishing of the badge. The solder seems to be without finish, is that correct?

I could be wrong, but I can't help think of a cast copy...or a copy made by other means. I hope I am wrong.

                              Flemming I think you're right!

just as an update, here's what I just PMd Jim:

'a very interesting spange. From pics alone I thought it was authentic, and maybe even from 800 silver. Having it in hand doesn't give me the same feeling...
I think it's a cast copy, looks like from two halves? The finish is very chrome-like, and the soldering is extreme
I'd hoped for a silver strike. Even the 'bend marks' seemed consistant with one pulled of a ribbon bar. But I dont feel comfortable with it at all now.
It's seems a very fine casting though, interesting as the finish resembles some of the 'raised mm' L/16 fakes from a while back...
I'm quite depressed, as I was sure it was good!
I'll be mailing it back a.s.a.p
                              regards
                              jon'
