I do not own a Meybauer Spanish Cross, but in doing some comparisons to the two in Previtera's book this one is a fake. Close, but no cigar, in every area like hardware, details, makermark, and finish.
    best wishes,

It never ceases to amaze me how much effort goes in to making things like these. Thanks, Jeff (and everyone else) for your analysis.

        Meybauer Cross

        Craig,

There are three oddities which I noticed right away: (1) the Meybauer logo is bogus (2) Meybauer Crosses are normally "900" Silver and (3) their logo and silver stamp are almost always at right angles to the cross.

I'm a bit late, but I confirm it is a fake. Andrew cross pictures show the textbook details for a Meybauer cross. The gold one doens't match original crosses in many details.
not the first time I see such coat on badges, but it doesn't match an original one.

Meybauer produced SCs, so why not golden ones???

                                Fake Spanish Cross

                                Gents
To pick this cross as a Maybauer fake you only have to look at the sword hilts.
They are all jaggerd, the only cross I know that comes anywhere close is the 935 marked cross.
                                Maybauer's are always smooth

                                Regards
                                Peter
