Maker mark close-up. Although it might be hard to see here, in hand it is clearly "L/18".

An oblique view from the bottom, showing that at some point a huge amount of solder was applied to join the frame to the backplate.

Okay, gents, that's it! What do you think?

the cross looks like it was worn on the bottom and on the top ribbing, like you said it was pressed against something to wear it and bend it. maybe he operated some kind of equiment .looks to be a good one .

Is the solder more or less the same, all the way around? Or only looking from the bottom?

Wow, maybe it's my eyes, but I think it looks way different from this "L/18" pinback.

Here's the rest of the solder job. Pretty heavy all the way around.

                        Hi George,

I've been looking at this one all day. I'm no expert, and there are a few odd things about it (solder, date numerals a bit wide, anti-rotation pin quite large), but overall I'd say it looks legit to me. I think the date could be just a late-strike. The frame looks good from the photos. The only thing that confuses me, frankly, is the mark, which looks a little different from what I'm used to seeing on these.

                        Here's one from my collection:
