Can anyone explain why? Some of these "15" and "L15" crosses appear
to have Souval frames and others have the "pimple" type Orth frame. There
seems to be no consistency to these. Both firms were from Vienna so does
that account for anything? Did the Otto Schickle firm buy their "parts" from
outside firms and then just assemble and mark their products "in house"?

Any opinions from anyone about this subject?

            Ken,
My opinion is that the crosses with the Orth frames are pretty safe but anything with a Souval type frame needs to be examined carefully before purchasing. There are too many crosses with the Souval type frame popping up lately making me think that not all is what it appears.

I agree with you. More and more Souval framed EKs' showing up.
They feature a variety of different centers, hindge, pin and catches.
The collecting community rightfully dismisses the Souval KC with its
low swas and drooping three in the date. However it seems any Ek1
or EK2 with the Souval thpe frame is given a pass. I find myself becoming
more and more suspicious of these EKs'.

A case in point. Last year I bought and sold, what I believed to be a
perfectly good EK1. It had the Souval type frame. What was so curious
about it was that it was marked on the pin with an incused "OM". It had
a magnetic center and had the standard type pin, hindge and catch
setup. Now I am questioning that cross. Wish I had taken some pictures
of it but I only had it for a few days.

I really do think we need to do some serious investigating of these crosses.
