That sounds sensible, thanks. I gave the cross to my dad and he also reckons the whole cross is non-magnetic and that I'm just feeling the weight of the magnet rather than the pull. Outvoted at 2 to 1 now so I think I must concede!

I will try out your suggestion - it's a very helpful tip.

Sara, if the cross is magnetic it will be very obvious - the magnet will stick to it and remain there when you say turn it around. If it just falls off, then it's not magnetic.

Thanks Mr.Bianchi, that is also helpful. As you have read, I did query how strong the pull should be. In that case I am most definitely wrong, wrong, wrong and my cross is non-magnetic in all respects and therefore has a brass core!
