    Lot of EKII's

Here are a bunch of iron corsses that are being sold individually. Aparently the lot was bought from a veteran (recently past away) who was a friend of the dealer. The veteran was part of a graves registration unit during the war, and picked up every cross he could find. I find the story reasonably believeable seeing as all the crosses seem to be in similar condition.

So, do these look alright at a glance? Closer photos of an individual one.

Not to sure about the story as EKII's were not worn! so when burying these Dead it is unlikley they had an EKII on them to rob!

Hard to say from the photo, but could they all be Flochs?

I'd personally be careful buying anything from this lot without first posting clear, well-lit photos on this forum to have judged. It would be good to see this sample cross posted with well-lit photos of the obverse and reverse dates. Trevor could be correct in saying they might all be bad. Help us to help you by posting better illuminated photos.

I don't know if these are going to help much or not. They're pretty washed out by adjusting the lighting.

              They don't appear to be Flochs...maybe S&L's?

Can't say much about the crosses from the pictures shown, but I've never seen a whole bunch of crosses laid out together like that where all of the ribbons look exactly the same. Usually there will be differences in wear, staining, fraying etc.

I would be wary of this lot and would want a careful check before buying any of them.

                  a

I agree, ribbons are very similar and one may wonder if a dealer came across a length of ribbon and finished off a bunch of spare crosses. Either way, the crosses are what they are and have value.

I've been looking at the single posted example now for some time and the closest I can come to a match would be a '56' Robert Hauschild, but the numbers aren't exactly the same. One outstanding feature on the posted example worth mentioning are the multiple flaws on the vertical 3:00 arm, reverse side of the cross. And the flaws on 12:00 horizontal.

                    Here's a '56' to compare...

They all seem to be the same maker, which would concern me. Also, I'm not 100% convinced they are not Flochs, although they do indeed resemble the '56' Robert posted. But the '3' on the obverse date and the rounded inner corners make me hesitate. Hank, may I ask what you see that makes you think they are not Flochs? I just can't say...

Here are some Floch dates, with the cross in question at the top:

Some KIA soldiers most likely had their EK2 in a pocket (just got it etc) so its not unlikely to find EK2s like this.

Just my completely unfounded, personal opinion. I could well be 101% wrong - nothing new there.

Until we see better pix, no telling.
