    Cased Iron Crosses

Cased Iron Crosses. I see it often. But what is a Cased Iron Cross ?
Should the case and cross be from the same produser ? Or could one just put any cross there ?

    Thanks alot.

IMO, technically speaking, you are right, there is no such thing as a cased EK in most cases (pardon the pun). If I remember correctly, cases were not made by the same manufacturers that made the crosses, so all one can hope for is a genuine EK in a genuine case. Whether they belong together, there is no way of telling.

Quite true. Except for a couple of exceptions. On Imperial EK's, Godet sometimes had their cases marked with their logo and name on the silk lining of the lid. On the other hand, Godet did not always mark the cross itself that might be in that case. But if you find an unmarked cross in a marked case, the cross should be examined closely and compared to marked examples of that maker's crosses to make sure it appears to be made by same. Confused now?

I've seen quite a few Zimmermann EK 1s in this type of case.

          Hello!

Think, there are some more exceptions.......................
Here is mine L/18 marked EK in an original L/18 marked case.

          Cheers and Merry Christmas

Badges, cases -- they're two completely different products.
I'm just guessing, of course, but I wouldn't imagine that an EK maker would also make the cases. I also wouldn't think that they would manufacture their own outer cartons.
Packaging was probably made by someone else and purchased by the badge companies.

                What are the apologies for?
I remember reading somewhere (I wish I remember where) that cases were made by other manufacturers and supplied to EK makers. I believe Rick L was also saying something to that effect at one point. Maybe some makers like Zimmermann received their cases from a steady supplier, thats why we see so many Zimmermanns in those cases, whereas other makers took whatever was available.

Now, anyones cares to count how many times we used the word "case" in this thread?

Didn't Deschler also use maker marked cases on occasion for their EK1s? I have seen cased KVK1s with the Deschler name on the interior silk.
