Iron Cross "round 3" and ribbon

I just bought an EK2 with a "round 3" from a very reputable German dealer with a ring at the top. What is important about a round 3. Also, is it a good idea to buy original EK2 ribbon to go with my EK which does not have one, or is this dumb?

The round 3 is scarcer than the three that has the flat top on it. It seems to me like an original ribbon would be the way to go. Congrats on your round three. How about a photo?
