What a gem George , keep this one !! S&L supplied early on Rettenmaier with frames . This one has a S&L 1st frame front , the 1st L59 die and the low anti-rotation pin .... marked with the topless pyramid in a squere !

Well Christian ... the back side has been sanded down , .. looks like the thread mount was re-attached !? The S and L59 are quite faint/shallow now . I think yours there may have another mark aswell , allmost removed too . Not sure - can you confirm ?

Hi Douglas, no it`s not a backward "F" there... I have gently remowed some dark
area`s on the back of the cross, and I think I found a "P" or a "F" on that "bump"
you can see too the right arm of the cross... I have tried too look trough a magnification glass... (but when u stare for a while your eyes can be mistaken)..
                  Its probably nothing there...
                  Best regards: Christian.....

Did not think there was a mark there .... the light and angle shows that now . If you can - do not clean it anymore . Was woundering if someone tried vaulting the cross ???

Reviving an old thread since I just got this cross in setting my meager beer budget back a whopping hundred bux. Magnetic center, marked L59 with two dots ':' & the uncommon left catch set up which seems the norm with these Rettenmaeir crosses.

Douglas mentioned these were inspection marks?

                          Nice catch Rick :
A very uncommon 2 dot combination . ... with a pin type I had not recorded yet .

Yeah, I thought the two dots was 'different'. Hadn't picked up on the pin difference but I'm a bit of a slacker when it comes to all the nuances of these things. I'm usually just happy when the darn thing is real. I guessing the diversion of that C-note was worth it.

A suggestion was made in regard to these left opening clasps that they were made for left handed recipients. Since the L/59 number means it was custom made, well then, why not have a left handed opening made for a southpaw?
