    One piece EK2...

Picked this up for a price that's acceptable to me if it turns out to be a fake. Its a one piece non magnetic casting. Hard to tell from the photos but there are traces of silver plating overall, some of which has a patina that appears genuine to my eyes. It is a very good cast with no bubbles and when the cross is dragged across a piece of white paper, it leave no line (like that tin slag does); nor are the points of the arms bent which also indicates a soft metal. Not surprisingly it weighs more than a three piece. I get a good feeling from this one otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Opinions? i will be happy to post more scans if necessary.... Ausgang

            Out of curiosity:

There do exist authentic 1-piece EK2s. How are you sure this is not one of them?

            Thanks,
            Best regards,

Although I'm not anywhere near an "expert", I kind of don't like it. The quality doesn't thrill me, and the "3" in the 1813 date just looks too Floch for me.

Hopefully somebody else will be able to give you a definitive answer.

Who made the 1 piece EK2s? Is it known? I haven't seen any before.

Not sure a maker is known. I do know that some are Schinkels, and that Daniel (aka grueni) has one that he's shown on the forum recently.

I've seen a lot of Iron Crosses in all sorts of conditions and this one is very convincing in hand. Naturally that doesn't mean a thing if no one on the forum can vouch for a non magnetic one piece. The quality is quite good; the damn scanner is flattening it too much and these massive closeups make most of its aging look like bad craftmanship. Here is a scan of the questionable "1813", and the swaz and "1939"...

Thanks Trevor, I think its pretty bitchen myself too! Here is a scan of the edge. no casting line, even on the inside curved side of the arms. It must have been finished off or it was cast some other way, although I don't know how.

Normally I like to expose fakes and repros but I think this is genuine TR issue. I have nothing to base this on other than its appearance and a gut feeling.

I bought this from a guy who had a mixed bag of obvious fakes and genuine stuff. No outright con going on...

                            Here's a link to a thread on another one piece non-magnetic EK2:

No one seems to have much of an opinion on this cross, I wish one of the heavies would drop a little science...
