    Ubergrosse

    Has the Ubergrosse been faked?

I realize that just about everything has been faked over the years.

I've done a search of the forum and haven't been able to locate any.

Reason I ask is that I see one on a site where the owner is asking 350$ US.

    Seems rather cheap.

What I don't like about it is that the inner corners don't match to what I have seen on this site and other dealers sites. The corner beading on the originals seem pretty well all the same.

One of the inner corners appears to have an 'X' type finishing mark and they
    are quite rounded.

    Any insite appreciated.

    Hello Wayne,

a lot of collectors mix up the Übergröße with the wide-frame EK. While the first is about 47mm wide, the second one measures 45mm and is quite common. Unfortuately everyone wants to make a profit and tries to make something special out of a normal cross.

The real Übergröße has not been faked yet.

          Hello Wayne.

both crosses are fakes. Moreover these fakes only are 44mm wide.

Do you know what stamp the cross on the left has?

According to the seller it is supposed to be a Zimmerman.

              Hi Wayne,

its not even close to a Zimmermann. Stay away from these crosses.

              greetings,

              Stefan

There is a thread on here somewhere about these fakes. They are the famous old "Rounder" RKs that have been retooled as Ubergroße EK2s. They started appearing about 6 months ago -- I guess after the Rounder RK was finally widely exposed as bogus.
                    Best regards,

I found a number of threads on the rounder.
                        From looking at them.
I would think that the ubergrosse in my thread is a reworked rounder of some type. Inner corners of the obverse give it away in my opinion.

Here's another of the same fake... I purchased this from a fellow forum member for my fake files.

It is very well made and and has substantial weight, however it's quite unlike a genuine ubergrosse in appearance.
