Now this is a tricky one : .... could not find an exact match . The only interesting link I could find is that all Latvian fakes have a short neck 3 . Date and frames are slightly different and Latvian fakes have different appearances . Hesitant to post this .... does not say yes or no . More a general observation .

One more thing on this one:

      Dimensions: 44.1mm (w) x 44.2mm (h)

      Weight: 19.6g w/o ribbon

      Thanks
      Best regards,

        Thanks Douglas.

One quick question before I run out the door: do all (or most) Latvian fakes have that dip in the frame there? Or is it just the one you've posted for comparison?

If they all have it, it could be a clue to their manufacturing process (for example, the frame was clamped there during assembly).
        Best regards,

          Hi Trevor :
I see just now you had posted pictures,... over 35 min until I got the notification .
Anyway .... the pictures give some immediate answers : Easy to see that the frame die was re-worked with a new crown as I did suspect . It is the shape of the crown that is important . Unfortunatly die wear will obscure this .
Even though I just started looking at the bead feature to see what can be use -shape wise - to determing period and post war pieces - it is far from being complete . I am doing a diagram .

                Hi Douglas,

Thanks for all the info. I have not yet begun to digest it. Before I do, though, I have to ask: what is a "crown"?

                Thanks,
                Best regards,

3a shows both : the worn down old bead with a new bead crown or - bead top on it . Rough hand drown lines for refference only , need to compare to other picture .

                    Hi Douglas,

Thank you for your great effort in this thread! As always it is very much appreciated.

I have been trying for 2 days to understand your conclusions, and I must admit I am not entirely there yet.

I do not think the crown (if by "crown" you mean beading rim) has been reworked on this cross -- if reworking is evidenced by "uneven height [of beads], surface lumps and bumps." Also, there are no "plugs" between the beads on the beading rim of my cross, which would indicate that the ridges in the die were not breaking down, correct?

Also, I don't understand what I am seeing here in this diagram. The top row seems like it is profiles of various types of beading rims? If so, I'd say my cross resembles Figure 2 most, although the tops are a bit more rounded on mine. As for the drawings on the bottom row, I'm not sure what they are?

Please help me understand what I'm seeing in your diagrams and I will communicate whatever information you may need about the cross.

Again, let me say thank you for the help so far!
                    Best regards,
                    Streptile
