    Thoughts on a KVK 1

    Hi all,

Don't post here much as I spend most of my time in the British& Commonwealth section but I still lurk here more often than not.

I don't actively collect German anymore but I've always had a soft spot for the KVK and still manage to pick one up every now and again.

Here's one that has me a little stumped. A friend showed it to me the other day but I honestly couldn't make up my mind one way or the other. In truth my gut tells me it's a very good repro. I certainly can't fault the obverse as the details are crisp. It's the reverse that gets to me. Firstly it's marked L/58 but the mark is unlike any mark I've ever encountered (good or bad). Also when looking at the reverse you can see "blobs" (for lack of a better term) between the sword arm and cross arms @ 1:00. I seem to remember reading somewhere that that is a bad sign. I may be wrong though so that's why I'm coming here and asking for help.

Any thoughts or opinions you guys could provide would be of great help.

    Many thanks in advance.

    Cheers,
    Greg

Last shot showing a side view. Note how vaulted it is.

          Thanks again,

              Hi Greg,
The blobs you mention are signs of a Floch. Take a look at the Floch article at the top of the page and you can compare your example there.

                Good Morning Gentlemen,

Thanks for the comments. Much as I suspected!! As I mentioned I remembered reading that the "blobs" were a bad sign but couldn't place where. Thanks for the confirmation.

                Cheers,
                Greg

This is not a L/58 Souval design eg the mm on Souvals is on the screwback disc.

So I believe too that this is a Floch with a twist. Somebody got creative, replaced the clamshell and banged a mm into the cross

                    I actually impressed myself.
I read the tutorial at the top of the page just last weekend and I was able to judge it correctly.
I still have a lot to learn though.
