    Iron Cross "with tag"

    Hello!

A few years ago I bought from a German dealer a cased EK 1 with a little tag on the bottom.
    I have two questions:
    1. Has anybody an idea for the tag? Why has Major Hett his Feldpost-number on the case. I think nobody received his EK with the mailmen!?

    2. On the back of the needel is a maker mark. It looks like 80, maybe 86.
I took a look to the known EK makers, and I could not find one oh these numers.
    Is it OK?

    Thanks!

    Christian

Maybe it was his way of labeling his stuff... I know some people who label everything they have with a certain mark or their name... ???

Maybe its a spare he ordered by post!!

I am sure there are instances where awards were posted to recipients or there familys, particularly where the recipient was KIA.

The ability to write and print out a self sticking label with a write program and a printer is a modern day one.

The German use of the word "original" in this context does not maen "authentic", but should make clear that this was the actual EK Major Hett owned and not just some (also original) replacement.

For me, this is a collector´s or museum´s label.

            Cheers, Frank

I'd have to agree with Frank.
Some type of museum or collector catalog ID tag.

It's always nice to have a name to go with the award.

Makers mark looks like 80 to me for the firm of G.H. Osang from Dresden

I cannot say I have ever seen a piece from this firm and a quick flip though Gordon's book does not reveal any 80 marked EK1's

Also I would remove that sticky label and stick it on something else, Frank is right it is modern and will leave nasty "sticky crap" on the crap and potentually damage it.

The weakness of the strike of the stamp makes me wonder if someone attempted to mark it with an "800" silver mark.
