Hi Vince,
Can you get some additional pictures of the case - without the cross and ribbon in please.
Also, how does the cross sit in the recess?
Sorry, I can't view these to any degree of 'detail'.
But what I would say before we progess, is buy the cross not into the case with such examples.

I am purchasing this cased EK from Thorsteinn who lives in Iceland. Perhaps you sold it to him. Thank you for adding this info. By chance do you have any photos other than the ones already posted which could add to this discussion?
From what I gather to this point is that the cross itself is awsome. The questions are about the cross being cased and that this is not common to find. Can you shead any light on this opinion or expound on it.
This is simply for education purposes only. I am purchasing the item and have given my word on that so as far as I am concerned it is a done deal. I just want to learn more about cased EKs and in this case a cased Ubergrosse.
Thank you for your time,
Vince Leone

But for future references I advice you to do some more study before buying in stead of when the deal is done.
EK2 cases tend to go for high prices nowadays.
Many of these WW2 crosses come in cases made before WW2.
Some crosses came with private made cases that have been made during WW2.
And there are also the more common WW2 LDO cases.
This specific case I am not aware of, but I am not a real case expert.
I see Marcus already replied, he is one of the most aknowledged persons with these cases. He can maybe be helpfull if detailled pictures are posted.
The Ubergrosse itself looks good from what I can see.
But for me the question would be if this case has been made for an Ubergrosse EK2 and when it was made (WW2 or before WW2)!
I really don't know. Maybe the previous owner or Albert can tell if the cross fits perfectly in the resecc.

Also I seem to remember that many Ubergross EKII's were know to come with typical EKII packets marked Frank & Reif of Stuttgart...
The case in question is a real tough one to pin down as searching the proper packet and case section brings up no match!
I am stumped on the case and by far no expert, Just trying to learn like We all are!
Perhaps the Cross was delivered in a packet and case added by the Vet later?
I wonder if a maker for this Beauty of a cross can be pinned down? again I am just trying to learn, and wonder about Cross maker and the packet angle....
I love this cross and it's look! Nice catch Vince regardless!
respectfully!

Hello Thorsteinn,
Thank you for the great photos. I hope these will satisfy the curious. Do you have the exact dimensions of this cross? Have you ever ventured a guess of its maker?
Thanks again,
Vince

Hi,
If this EK is not native to this case, the outer rim, or flange, would lie on top of the base, as the case would have been (in all likelihood) made for a 44mm 39EK2, or even a 42mm 14EK2. In order to see whether this is the case (), a photo like the one Luud posted would be decisive. Or maybe even Albert's memory?
However, even if this cross is not native to this case, it's possible that they've lived together since the original recipient was awarded the cross, then bought himself a case for it, and there's some history to be respected there, too. I would liken it to a period engraving on an EK1 - an addition that didn't come from the factory but nonetheless adds to the story the cross has to tell.
I have no way of knowing whether the above is true, but it's a way of saying that if the cross did not come with the case, it's still a potentially interesting set. I don't remember the price, but if it's approximately (What you'd pay for an Ubergroße) + (What you'd pay for an EK2 case), then why not?
Just my 2¢.
