2nd class EK converted to RK for wearing in action

    Hello,
It seems that Iron Crosses 2nd class were converted to Knight's Crosses for wearing in action. Does somebody have photographic evidence of this 'field conversion', please? I am looking for pictures of KC-holders who are wearing such a conversion and also pictures of the '2nd class IC converted to KC' itself. (There is one picture of such a conversion in Mr. Williamson's book 'The Iron Cross, a history 1913 -1957' on page 95.)
How does one know if this conversion wasn't made postwar?
Which methods were applied for the fixing of the IC to the ribbon?

    Regards,
    Herwig

    Hello
Georg Tyroller is clearly shown wearing a converted EK2 in BiblioVerlag's volume 2 of "KC Holders of the flugabwehrtruppen".
Sorry but I have no scanner to provide you a pic.
Here is some info about him :
Last rank : Obst. (C.O. Flak Rgt. 107)
    DoB : 02/02/1897
    DoD : ?
    EK1 : 23/07/1940
    DKiG : n/a
RK : 23/12/42 (708th) as Obstlt. Flak Abt. 84 (mot.)
I am sure that may other soldiers adopted this way but Tyroller is only the first one who comes to my mind.
    Sorry
    Denis

        converted KC 's

        Hallo Herwig ,

Im sure some of the original KC holders used a converted Iron cross as a KC , one such example is Hauptmann Oskar Detke ( Staffelkapitän 9./KG 55 ) as pictured on page 186 in the book " Das Eisernes Kreuz 1813 bis Heute " written by H.Geissler .

One can clearely see that Detke is using a IC 2 nd. class for wear instead of a KC => i would however be very very sceptical regarding obtaining such a piece ( due to the fact that these so called converted KC' ses are popping up in almost every major auction ) => it is for sure that some holders used them but i would only want a real KC for adding towards my collection.

        Just my .02 Euro ( cents )
