    Original iron cross 2nd class?

    Hello,
What do you think of this iron cross? I can't decide whether it is original or not.
I don't like the attachment for the ribbon loop and the finish ( and the fresh rust) , but I'm not sure.
I'll try to make better photo's.

    Thanks!
    Frank

        Frank,

This looks a lot like the fake cross which is marked with various numbers such as 113, 84 and 16.

I agree with Robert's opinion but out of interest, is there a makers mark on the ribbon ring?

Could be an original frame by maker 24.
The swas was removed and later renazified with a new fake core.

            Regards

Yeah, I agree with Grueni. Looks like the inside corner beading around the swastika was abraded when the swaz was removed from the original core, then a new core was used to replace the old one. I bet someone is trying to sell the denazified EK 2 core as an denazzed RK core or some nonsense...

I collect denazified EKs and I've noticed that the prices are going up for them, used to be the cheapest examples around since no one wanted them. Now I think people are buying them up to "restore" with incorrect cores, figuring people will only scrutinize the number on the ring.

I'd love to have clear photos of the inside corners on the reverse side of the cross. Maybe Frank could shoot through a magnifying glass if he doesn't have a macro option on his camera. I've put together a montage comparing the outside corner of an original '24' EKII and the cross which started the thread. I also see (I think) the split bead, which is typical for the fake I was previously referring to, and posted a photo of. It's frame is also wide as the 24's is. After seeing the beading comparison here, do you still feel that the frame is a '24'? Maybe the cross was made to look like a refurbished cross in order to sell (grinding the inside corners down)...???

Frank, does the cross look like it's been resoldered, messed with, other than the grinding marks near the swasi? Do you see a small stamp on the smaller ring, which is attached to the frame?
