    Robert, you're fast at that!

The diagonal downstroke of the "3" is distinctive. To my (untrained) eye, it looks similar. Agreed?

Yes, and I think that any little difference we can come up with would be due to die wear/evolution.

      BTW, a beautiful cross!

What's so special about the Zimmermann core is the strike is so precise, so perfect. Never have I seen either a Zimmermann EKI, or a Godet EKI or II with such a clean strike; they're always as yours showing a little wear to the dies.

Yes, I've noticed that about Carl's core, too.

It also seems as if the dates are quite high. A lot of makers have dates that are, in my opinion, unattractively low-relief.

What is the story with the Zimmerman fire?

As Sgt. Schultz says, "I know nothing."

A very good match, again. Would like to see good closeups on a crisp Godet EKII, i'll search the forum and maybe were lucky. If C F Z and Godet had something going on my core could well be a "loan" from Godet. As i said before my core looks to be a very early strike for the die used, never saw a Swaz and numbers that high either.

Carl, here's my Godet EKII. I overlooked it's nice strike.

The date that started the thread (Zimmermann) on the top, and the Godet EKII on the bottom.

Carl, the photos of your Zimmerman hoard EK core are a bitt deceptive because the light comes from a low side-angle, illuminating the sides of the date rather than the top, which is how most dates I've seen are photographed. Is there a possibility you can post additional photos of the "1939" with top-lighting? I think it'll make identifications easier.

                    Whenever you have time...

Thanks Robert! They look awfully close, only thing is that on mine the numbers looks to be closer together, but that can be explained with mine being a harder & deeper strike i guess. Today i found the same cross as you have, the unmarked one that was thought to be a C F Z, it's been sold on the e-stand by Matthieu.

Hi Trevor, pics is taken in a light box so light is coming from all over the place. Is this one better?

Certainly very detailed that one. Thank you.

A little off topic, but does anyone really know the process in which these cores were engraved? The detail is so precise. I've heard one dealer describe how an engraver would carve a large master specimen of the core or frame, then with the aid of a mechanical attachment transfer the design onto a smaller scale mold. I don't know how much truth there is in this, but it sparked my interest when I heard him describe it. Can anyone add to this?

Not even close in being the same, if you ask me.

Hi Robert, iv'e read that too, here on the forum somewhere. A member had a theory about the exact same method you are describing. This method came in use back in late 1800 if i remember correctly.
