Ha ha...that overlay I also use often If I doubt something

But I really like it that Robert didn't find a match yet.
I already loved to see him searching for years...and most likely will do it for many more years

        Luud,

And, you too, you too. See...there's that young tiger coming out of you again. Just underneath that mild mannered, behaved exterior is a bullish brute beast. You never know what's going to trigger you to pounce again. No, all joking aside, I find it very interesting that other members have the same cross as I. And now we can all cry together over this letdown.

You are funny Robert....But it is like a soap series. The hunt with all its emotions is much better than the (anti) climax.

Does anybody have pics of a crisp struck EKI core? Wonder how many cores a die would last before it started to deteriorate. Can only imagine the force needed to make such a crisp struck swaz as the one in post 2, iron is not the most forgiving material.

You are right, Luud - The hunt. If we should find an unmarked Zimmermann with typical EKI features it could easily be an unmarked Godet. So our only hope is to find a marked '20' Zimmermann. They would be extremely rare, but there has just got to be at least a few in circulation.

Trevor's overlay is really a good method. I need to learn this trick.

Thank you, Ryan. I like this cross as well. Only to find its maker...

Robert> So Godet & C F Z had something going on? Interesting, tell me more. Maybe my core can match a Godet EKII? Just because it (alledgely) was found at the C F Z factory doesn't mean it is a C F Z.

Close inspection of a C. Zimmermann and a Godet EKI show that the details are not only similar, but absolutely identical. The connection between both firms cannot be denied. Either they had use of the same dies, or the dies were made by the same engraver, it's only a guess as to which is true. And, I find that my '21' Godet EKII is identical to their EKI. Even Zimmermann's and Godet's Knights Crosses are also nearly clones of one another.

I have a crisp Godet "L/50" EK1 I can post this evening, which is a perfect match for the Zimmerman EK1s save the marking.

As a side note: I believe, based on photo evidence I've seen over time, that the Godet and Zimmerman EK1s are identical, except that they seem to have sourced cases from different manufacturers.
                        Best regards,

A day late, here are some photos of my Godet EK1 core.

No real evidentiary value here, just a nice cross! I suppose an overlay would be interesting as it's a Godet.

To compare the date here's the factory Zimmermann on top, and the Godet on the bottom....
