    Opinions on this L/54 please...

I bought this cross from a dealer years ago. It's unmarked as you can see. I believe it's an L/54. The lower right hand area of the beading at 6:00 is flawed something terrible, as well as the upper arm. Can someone give me their honest opinion as to when this cross was manufactured, wartime or postwar period?

It has IMO more the characteristics that is found on L/57's

                Luud,

I just knew you were going to say that. I base my opinion on the inside corners - L/54, IMO.

IMO there have been alot of mixes with those to makers (if it was not one and the same).
The yellowish transperant paint and the core from very worn out dies, I never seen on a L/54 before, only on a L/57.
Not all the L/57's had the worn out die of the frame.

                  Maybe others will know it?

OK, here's where I want to learn something about L/54 and L/57. Are the frames the same? I know the cores were interchangable from each maker. I used to think this area circled above was slightly different on the L/57. Can you straighten me out on this? Does my cross look like the 57 or 54 from the crosses you own? Forget about the yellow color just for a minute, please. What do you see in the frame details?

Do you still have those pics of the inner corners of the "L/54" 1914 EK 1s that I sent you? (I'm afraid that I deleted my copies.... )

                        Ek

I dug my EK L/54 and L/54 SBs (shouldn't make a difference) out and compared them. What I see is that the inner corners are different between crosses. I then weighed and measured them:

                        Weight - 18g
                        Height - 44mm
                        Width - 44mm
                        Thick - 4mm
                        Swastick - 8 x 8mm

                        Arms:

                        L/57 side - 26mm
                        L/54 side - 26.5mm

                        L/57 bottom - 26mm
                        L/54 bottom - 26mm

If you want more pictures, I will be more than happy to provide. Jim

                            Thank you Jim!

That was most helpful. I'm seeing my cross matching your L/54 in frame detail. The inside corners are distinctly different from each other. Thank you again.

Does anyone have any opinions as to when it might have been manufactured, war period or postwar?
