    Opinions on this "3" marked KVK1 ?

    Hi there,

I'm a KVK1 virgin and need some opinions on this.

It came boxed with a repaired hinge (resoldered on)

Marked '3' on reverse, not the most striking impression which is why I'm asking for your help

Apologies for the shyte photos, they've been taken by my nokia n95 mobile phone.

From what I can see I think it's okay.

          I second that...looks like a decent example!

This kvk1 comes with a maker marked Klein & Quenzar on the flocking.

I've been offered these for USD$200, is that a good buy? Repaired catch not withstanding? The obverse is stunning, the pix don't do it justice. Do you reckon its a tombac?

I believe your example is zinc. The '?' catch reenforced by the circular base plate is typical to the zinc badges by Deumer. Here is a tombak version to compare with. Notice how the catch is secured directly to the badge without the use of the round plate.

To go even further, some zinc Deumers had the '?' catch set in a recess and soldered, like the top left example. The round reenforcement plate was omited. The top right and lower examples are of tombak examples, where the tombak catch was soldered directly to he tombak badge.

A lot of the mm3 zinkers have some sloppy factory soldering. It's a little hard to tell from the picture but maybe it started out like this?

                    Just a thought.

                    Nice presentation btw Robert
