Jon, I have asked myself the same questions you did, and that is why I decided NOT to buy.

I don't recall having seen a Zimmermann clasp before.
Although the quality looks good, my gut-feeling says : no...

But, time will tell, I guess...

    Best regards,
    Ben

Why the comparison shot in Post # 2? (And dare we ask, it's from the Zimmermann hoarde by way of....?)

Ben, I thought the same, and took a gamble.
But in hand, the quality is very impressive, and delicate, If this was fake, why only one? it's way too good to waste

unless of course, it IS a reproduction, and we havn't seen any as yet, as Flemming mentions
but I havn't seen a fake this good ever

and the comparison shot was just to show the size.
Zimmermann by way of Barry. I don't think he, me, or anyone realised the significance of this find (if it's real!)
        regards

Congrats Jon! I'm by no means an expert on Spangen but i firmly believe in the "C F Zimmermann Horde". Otherwise we will have a major problem when the other "expertly made fakes" of RK's, Prinzens, GC cores and other high end stuff starts to surface soon. First i thought there was a very easy and logical answer to why a lot of C F Zimmermann stuff is so hard to find, the factory was bombed and burned to the ground. Problem is that the bombing was late in war and it should not really have affected the production that much. But the factory could have burned down early in war as well i guess.

Maybe the spangen did not pass the quality tests or they had to kill the project for some other reason. C F Zimmermann EKII are hard to find too, maybe they focused on the high end stuff, i can only speculate. I actually thought of going down there and see what can be found in the town records, if it not was destroyed during the bombing. There should be people still living there that remember the factory and when it burned down. Maybe some of our German forum friends live close by and can investigate further?

I have seen only (2) of these EK's, and both were unmarked examples. Some of the more advanced EK collectors on our forum have given their opinion that these crosses are indeed from CF Zimmermann. I have one such example, and will post it if someone desires to see it.

One could speculate that the factory was bombed during the early to midwar period because of the EKII's being unmarked. Then again, awards such as the light 20 DK's WERE stamped. One can only quess, without doing research.

Again, jon, I like the spange.

I also like the looks of it, but am just wondering why we havn't seen one before?
Maybe an early/mid war test run?

And I really do not hope that they will start to pop up reguarly now.

If it really is what we thing/hope it is, then you really have a(nother) killer item in your collection

Hi Robert, have your alledged CF Zimmermann EKII on file but you are most welcome to post it again. I ordered the "Zimmermann horde" EKII core Barry has, will post it when it arrives so we can compare the 3.

First time Pforzheim ever being bombed was according to Wiki on the 1st of april 1944 but the company could have burned down earlier, as you state we will not know until it is examined further.

                  Hi Carl,

Then I'll just wait. I hate to hijack this interesting thread with photos of an EKII. I'll be looking forward to seeing your EKII core, yes!
