        Spanish cross

Hi Im not very happy with this one,not because of the droop tailed eagles which I happen to believe in but eagles do not seem to be affixed to the cross. The pin assemble seems a bit odd and crude. You have all seen the photos before but I still believe in this S&L.

            Joey,
I have used the photos of this very cross (posted by you long ago) to argue in favor of these crosses. I like them, and that's no secret! Like everyone else, though, I realize that it will take a photo of one in wear to really convince the collecting community.
            Best,
            Leroy

              Harvey,
The eagles on your cross look very much the same as on Joey's. Are they soldered to the arms of the cross?
              Thanks,
              Leroy

                Hi guys,

have been doing my research on the Spanish Cross and have found the threads interesting.

Some are and some aren't in favour of the dropped tails, so many things to notice as well in determaintion of a good or bad example.

let me throw this at you which is being sold as the real deal but with Tails drooped...

                Maker mark 107??? opinions?

Also this baby which i only have 1 side of but i think its OK???

as oppossed to this complete heap

                Repro I think??

Carl Wild of Hamburg had the 107 mark. Here is the rear set-up of a Wild EKI posted some time ago by another member (hope he doesn't mind my borrowing this). Interesting comparison, not because the set-ups are the same, but because Wild's set-ups are usually a bit "off" from the norm.

I have to say I don't care at all for the other 2 you posted, both of which look pretty nasty.

Here's the Doehle drawing, with a comparison of the two different eagles (which repeat in sequence).

Followed by another (drop-tail) and then the sequence starts again. An attempt to "complete the circle" of the eagle the LW used when the Condor Legion left for Spain with the new one adopted (but not yet fully phased in) by the time of its return? Pure speculation, of course. Maybe an artist who didn't know for sure which eagle would be used.

The same eagle disparity appeared (again in repeating sequence) on the illustration used to announce the Next-of-Kin award.

If you were a manufacturer and had only these illustrations to go by, what would you do? Remember, the new eagle was still not in full use on uniforms in early 1939.

This is one of Jacques' wonderful photos, which I hope he will not mind me using. Of the officers receiving the award with Brilliants during the initial ceremony, ALL still wear the old eagle (they were, of course, just back from Spain).
