    EK2 opinions unusual suspension ring

Hello, found this one on old ebay, its been removed now but i was wondering if you could tell if it was good, notice the suspension ring is only soldered on the front of the frame, iam sure that was supposed to be characteristic of a maker but i cant remember

    anyone any thoughts?

    Thanks Mike

It looks like a souval frame.
Numbers are kind of funny looking.
Could be good, could be a floch too.
Let the experts say for sure.

      Good Souval IMHO

      Hi Mike,

Looks like a good Souval. Yes, the jump ring should only be soldered to the front although that one has more of a gap on the back than I would have expected. Maybe camera angle? Regardless, I think it's good.

      Cheers,
      Stu

            Dipping 3

            Hello Mike,

I can't see it either and my understanding is that only those EKI with the Souval core had the Dipping 3. Maybe I'm in need of another lesson here?

            Regards,
            Stu

Souval , with the tell tale chickens feet corner beading , Friedrich Orth "15" also has the jump ring soldered on just the front .

Thanks guys! So the dipping 3 is only in the EK1? is there any evidence of Souval knocking out post war EK2's or did they just carry on making EK1s....

Nice original Souval with the characteristics of this maker, nothing to be concerned about here! I don't believe the dipping 3 core was just confined to the EK1s, the EK2s have this type of core also.

I just helped a Friend here in town pick out a nice Souval EKII with clear dipping 3. Nice cross it is!

                      Hi guys,

OK then, I know that Souval frame EKI used two different types of cores (Souval with Dipping 3 and Orth without) and I've seen quite a number of Souval EKII but never one with a Dipping 3. I guess it has just been coincidence.

Kevin, can your friend post a photo of his EKII? I'd like to see one with a clear pronounced Dipping 3.

                      Kind regards to you all,
                      Stu

I have not encountered a 'dipping 3' Souval core in their EKII, and would also like to see this. Very good find, if so. No reason to doubt it.

I agree, a good Souval. I have one EK2 in my collection that has the ring soldered on only one side of the frame, and I've seen it on a few others, so this is not unusual.

                              Modified Post...

Daniel...I note you have, upon reflection, modified your post #4 and removed the reference to this cross having a Dipping 3. That's a good call I think.

Adrian...have you any photos you can show to support the idea of a Dipping 3 being used in a Souval EKII? I've been unable to locate any and would like to get this figured out as Souval EK are a bit of a sub focus of mine.

Kevin...looking forward to the photos my friend. I'll get them posted ASAP.

It's nice to have a little puzzle to work on.

                              Kind regards to you all,
