      Just because the Iron Crosses and other awards were produced on board a fighting ship at sea doesn't make them reproductions. The photograph above was taken by a German Seaman by the name of Valen Langer while serving on board the famous Auxiliary Cruiser ORION. Some auxiliary Cruiser badges were produced in Japan for crew members of various ships. Many were purchased in Japan and worn after they had been awarded the badge while on a war cruise. One such badge was awarded to a seaman from the THOR and is in a private collection of a friend of mine.
