            XRAY,
If it were original why the crudeness and two of them (i'm with william). Looks like it was made on a laser cutting machine IMO. The last place i worked at guy's would have red enameled steel and laser cut the Red Wings hockey symbol out on it.

Don't know if you've read the thread, I am not claiming its original.
As is well known, Germans produced many "patriotic" items such as this in the Imperial era, could this be a similar WW2 example ? Not likely, I at first thought it possible could.
I don't agree that its particularly crude, then again it doesn't exactly wreak with quality either.
The edges and lettering especially are not particularly impressive.
I'm in the skilled trades and am well aware what modern machinery can do, this I don't think is modern [as in made in the last decade].

It is true, one does not see much of the "patriotic" semi military, professional grade items that came out of Germany in WW1 being reproduced in WW2, I wonder why this is ?

Undoubtedly interesting if not original. I have to agree the finishing in particular is very crude, it looks as if the, what should be, beading has been filed down and the whole thing given a good seeing to with some coarse sandpaper in an effort to make the top surface smooth.

The piece shown in post 11 is a beautiful example of an imperial made cross. If only it were mine.

The Liverpool Medal Company have an EKI 1870 enamel type on it's website now - item L17889 under 'new in stock' @ £995.

Sadly, they dont seem to think it a good idea to put up a few pics, but no doubt would do so on request.

No arguments with that, it is a true gem.

It looks to me like it was made for a, er, "motorcycle enthusiast."

Not sure juoneen, chomping on it never came to mind.
                              It appears to be enamel.
