    DK non maker marked items

Hi. I am currently looking into a a few DK that I have seen on various web sites. One is in Gold and is Zimmerman marked 20 (4 donut rivets) which looks like a good authentic buy. However I have also seen a DK silver which is very appealing indeed but is not maker marked (six rivet variety). Has anyone any views on buying the non maker marked variety of DK (in terms of determining authenticity). Thanks.

    Hello Martin,
Just advice - educate yourself on what the real ones look like, weigh, and their measurements. Memorize the the different manufacturing characteristics of each individual maker - type of rivits, recessed hinges vs. non recessed hinged, catch on a round plate vs. attached directly to the reverse, pin types, etc.
Then, and only then, will you be able to recognize a DKiG or silver DK by a particular maker, whether it be hallmarked or not. Just do your homework before you buy - it could lead to a very expensive mistake if you don't.
    Good Luck!

Martin, this DK in silver is one of the few items in my collection actually brought home by a relative. The photo of the front is somewhat skewed due to the angle of the cross lying on the pin. The Swaz is actually the exact the size of the silver disk under it and is properly centered. The angle also makes the red ring appear to be more predominate than it actually is even though there is slightly more red showing than on my “20” marked cross in gold. There are no maker’s marks anywhere. The rivets are all solid. I understand there were several makers of this award and this may not be the one you’re looking at, but as least it’s one I know the history of. Hope it helps.
