I think that it is good. An early spange. Gordon Williamson shows one in his book. Below is mine. -Ger

I agree with Ben. Here is the front of mine. Why do I think it is a copy (could be wrong have been before):

          1. Look at the "1" it is straight down, no curve at the bottom.
          2. Swastika - sloppy to say the least.
          3. Look at the neck under the beak, there are no lines.
          4. Inside the nines, the pebbling is wrong.

can you show the rear of that one Jim?

but IMO it's OK. I think there's a few dies of this type
there's the viened one, and these non-viened ones. I think there's at least 2, maybe 3 slightly different non-viened dies. Biggest difference is the feathers between the legs. I had a thread going about this in the past
I've never seen those 'neck lines' before though Jim, is it damage?

              Jon,

No, the neck lines appear to have been applied, just like the mouth. When I get my new toy I will hopefully be able to provide better pictures of this area.

I have been studying the one Ben posted and am now reversing my thoughts, it is a fake. I went to the site that had it and was able to view a larger picture, but couldn't download. Using Ben's picture I have noted the differences between mine and that one. Jim

we've got to compare Ben's to examples from that particular die
Ger's and Jim's are from different dies

                here's one like Ben's:
(I've got a feeling it'll turn out good, just gotta get it in hand Ben!)

It really seems unbeliveable that they would be having so many different setups for such a short period of time.

                      Jon

It is not like Ben's. The date looks almost but is not. First the one, the hook comes almost to a point and is narrower. Second, the three, see my number 5, this portion also comes to a point and not as shown in your picture. Third, the first nine is narrower, and the bottom leg almost comes to a point instead of being squared at the end. Jim

Sorry to disappoint you Jon, I won't get it in my hands.
My gut-feeling says to skip this one.
Can't really explain it, but I don't like this particular clasp....

                        Best regards,

over the last few years, I've been collecting pics of good examples for my 'files'
                          I've found:
                          2 Internediates
                          2 Junckers
                          10 Maybauers
                          25 Boergers
you could presume that's 70%(ish) Boerger...
