    EK II "4"??-opinions please.

Hi! I'm new on w-a.com, don't know much about EK's but spending some time in here and trying to learn from all Your posts..... I'm so pissed that there's so many fakes on the market and I don't have almost any knowledge how to recognize them....Do You people think the same? I know I should try to get as many crosses thatIcan and then just learn as mach as possible- but how can I if in few years timesomeone will open my eyes and say- You have been Floched! Or something else... Sorry, it just come to my mind now, i just had to write this.

Refereing to the title of the thread. What Do You think about this one?Is it "4"?

First of all, welcome to the forum and well done on joining in and wanting to learn about what you collect. You have found the right place to start as there is a wealth of experience here and some decent people around to help you. You would be well advised to join up and become an Association Memeber too!
Your EK is an original example of a Steinhauer & Luck - '4' type. Does it have a makers mark on the ribbon ring? You will find this type of cross with the features on it marked by many different makers, '76' is a common one to find.
I'm sure Douglas will see this and offer his thoughts as well.

            Yes, welcome ...
I had a look at the Cross . It is a S&L = Steinhauer & Lu'ck EK2 . Well worn 1st core die with a less worn 2nd frame die . A transition mixed die version not rare but not that many as the common solid 1st core and 1st frame or 2nd core and 2nd frame combinations . If the price is good - grab it !
This takes us to a few other important subjects . Know your sources you are buying from . For every 5 good dealers there is one 'Scheister' ! Most of the bad ones know they are selling copies and a few do not care or know what they are selling . No country is immune - they are every where .
Buy the item and not the story that might go with it !
For myself I started with learning the most common fakes first . Flock , 333 , 666 and many others , have a reference library ... as there are lots of them and they will be sold on the cheap side . And remember ; If it is too good to be true - it usually is !!! As a full member you can post for help .
A lot studying that will take time to get knowledge , start small at first !
Just a few things I mentioned here .

            Good luck , Douglas

As others have said, that cross is a nice original Steinhauer & Lück.

I would highly recommend becoming an association member here. It will be the best $25 (19.67 Euros) you'll ever spend! The benefits include:

              1) You can post photos directly to your message posts,
              2) You will have access to more information,
              3) You can SELL on the e-Stand.

The information I've learned here has saved me hundreds of dollars, because I armed myself with knowledge of the fakes before I went to my local militaria shows to purchase Iron Crosses.
