Quick question: what are the items you referenced in your note above? Just curious as I'm not a medals/decorations collector and am curious about what would be dated '44.
Thanks much and best regards,
Drew
Drew,
The 'Einschriben' indicates that the MAPPE was sent to the family in 1944. Since no large MAPPE has been encountered with a date later then 1942, it has always been accepted that they were no longer made after this period. However, I do not subscribe to this theory based on a number of documents in my collection indicating a shipment date of 1944.

Not trying to say there's anything wrong with the helmets - there isn't, just trying to understand why the guy would need two!
Mike - good to see you back and good luck reuniting the rest of the group

Part V
Gents,
Recently purchased part V to the Rittmeister Sachenbacher grouping.
Many of you have asked me; "how could this be?" The Sachenbacher family kept just about everything from their ancestors until they decided to sell the entire lot to a German Collector/dealer in 2005, Since Sachenbacher's family spanned three wars and a variety of ranks and branches, the amount of stuff with the family was huge, over 10 spiked helmets!
Anyway, here it is, the RK and both the EK2 and EK1 as Schinkel pieces.

Steinar,
We will never know for certain.
Here's what we do know; it was the only cross still with the family in 2005, the studio shots and the ceremony pictures all indicate he received a Juncker RK and it is the only type he wore until his death in 1943.
The cross indicates it was worn for a long time and the wear is certainly consistant with real wear and not contrived.
