When it's issued, there will be LEGIONS of collectors who will want to own one. The chance to have a first-issue of a new decoration is like heaven to many collectors. In fact, to make their Iron Cross collections complete, I'm betting that many here will want one, as well.....

Unless I'm mistaken (and often am!), it's not an Iron Cross but an Ehrenzeichen or Honour Cross so please don't confuse this medal with 'THE' Iron Cross as to my understanding this is a seperate award.

Adrian is right. This is not an Iron Cross, but rather a Bundeswehr Honor Cross. It's not particularly new, either. I've had this example for probably ten years.

I remember not long ago that the topic of reinstating the iron cross caused an uproar from the public, it seems some people will associate the IC with the Nazi's period weather it's post war or prewar etc., so it was turned down. Adrian is righ that's not a new version of the IC.

A "new" iron cross as we all know it with the typical design would be awesome, but even if they will make them, it will probably look more "modern" and perhaps cheap compared to the 1957 issues...

The IC, by tradition, can only be instituted 'by charter' during times of great national peril (war).


So we could see a new IC series, if in the near future somebody decides to invade Germany especially with the way present BR constitution is set up.
