Iron Cross 1st. class makers mark '13' (G. Brehmer)

    Hello fellows,

got this cross a while ago and want to know if it's okay.

I searched for another piece to compare, but only information I found was in the 39' EK 1. Klasse rarity statistics that another member of the forum has (or had) a '13' marked cross too.

Any opinions on this cross are welcome.

    Best regards,

    Joerg

It's an original Wachtler & Lange EK1 with an incorrect post war added makers mark.

                    That's what I thought first.
But why should anybody mark it with a '13'?
It came from private purchase, but of course this does not mean that the marking is correct.

Isn't it possible, that W&L produced for Brehmer and they just marked with their own number?

                    Best regards,

                    Joerg

It is a W&L indeed, but I can't judge the mm.

Hard to say if it is post-war or not ( I do think so to) because there is nothing to compare it to.....

And because of that it will be hard to investigate.

                      Best regards,
                      Ben

Anything is possible but considering the stats and taking into account the large numbers of EK collectors here that only one other member has had a '13' marked EK1 it seems quite unlikely this is the case.
What is more likely is that any EK1 marked '13' is probably from another maker and has had a mark added to enhance the value.

                          Hello there,

Original cross but I have never seen a Brehmer mark like this one on anything period.

                            Hello again,

Perhaps it is a batch marking from W&L as the finish looks like it was applied after.

Okay, but that does not automatically mean that the few ones are not period (marked).

F.e. take a look at the L/14 crosses. There are only two ones in the community.
One of them ones was mine - when I got it, there was only one here.
                              And these ones are authentic.

Please don't understand me wrong, I don't want to put a gloss on this one.
As I wrote before, it came from private purchase and I got it from a very good friend of mine, so no problem for me to give it back.
I only want to give it a fair chance.

I will ask the other member if he can show us some photo of his one.
                              Maybe that helps.
If i is totally different to mine, we don't have to talk about it any longer.
But if it is the same, I think it is worth to think about it.

                              Best regards,

                              Joerg
