    The Deschler Horde

    Hi
EKs, KVKs, RussianFront Medals, Spanish Division Medals...
does anyone have a list of exactly what was found?
    I heard 'maybe' DKs?
    spangen?

    regards
    jon

    Jon,

I know of the EKs, KVKs and Russian Front medals. I have seen many of these and they were all for the most part in excellent condition.

The DKs on the other hand I believe to just be rumors spread around.

Steven's right, the DK rumor was hot for awhile. I've been looking and asking for cased EKI's, but so far I have not seen one in the same condition as the EKII's and KVK's, leading me to believe there were none.

        I have found the following:

        1. Cased + Cartoned KVK First Class with and without swords (Cartons can be tan or brick red)

        2. Cased KVK First Class with and without swords (with swords most commonly encountered without carton)

*Cases for KVK with swords are later war 'half cases' (ie no hinge or catch)
*Cases for the KVK without swords are always mid war examples with round or square edges with 'Deschler & Sohn Munchen' printed inside of the case

*The Awards themselves are high quality tombac (with or without frosting)

        3. KVK First Class Screwback w/s in tissue paper

*Found in trays - I have only seen Zinc crosses

        4. KVK First Class with and without swords in brown tissue paper

*Found in trays - crosses are not mint - the brown tissue paper has not protected these crosses and has marked the medals (Tombac)

        5. KVK Second Class with and without swords in paper packet

*Early quality with ribbon and in tissue paper

        6. KVK Second Class with and without swords in tissue paper

        *Early quality sometimes with ribbon.

        7. Iron Cross Second Class in paper packet

*Mid war examples - most of these crosses have toned to a greater of lesser degree - again in brown tissue paper with ribbon

        8. Russian Front Medals in paper packet

*Late war Zinc medals with ribbon in tissue paper

        9. Spanish Division Medals

*Without packet - in tissue paper with rolls of ribbon

        10. Mothers crosses (Grades or condition unknown)

        11. Large rolls of KVK ribbon

There are no EK1's or DK

The hoard was not stored correctly. While most of the medals are mint many show signs of age. Its is not uncommon to find the metal hinges are catches to be effected by surface rust - this will come off easily. Its seems many of the cases were thrown into boxes bofore storage.

          Steven, thanks very much
that's the most comprehensive list I've seen

is that list from the 'Deschler people'(!) or gathered together from what has been 'released'/available?
          regards

I have gathered this list over time from a variety of sources (I have bought most of them too)

Weitze told me that there were mothers crosses but I have yet to see them. Not that I am particularly interested in purchasing them.

When you mention the KVK2s and EK2s in paper packets, does this mean they also had the tissue paper in them and the ribbon, as in the whole set? That's how the ones I have came. Also, I believe a friend of mine had Blue Division medals with no packets at all. However, I did not know there were so many other awards from this hoard. I'd like to see those Mother's Cross examples. These are actually nice looking awards in person and a complete set from the hoard would be nice.

I thought the crosses from the Russian Hoard were maker 26, not Deschler.

                            Steve,

You are correct. The 'Russian Hoard' artifacts were B. H. Mayer (26).

                            Regards,
