Jon, to me it is the big-shouldergap-fake with re-worked head.

    best regards,
    Ben

      Ben, you're a genius!
I instantly thought: L/18? err maybe L/13? errrr something else?
but yes, you're 100% correct, amazing eh? I havn't seen these with such a convincing patina/plating before, and obviously it got the OK from Detlev too!
      fake fake fake

        Jon,

I have seen this "version" a few months back for the first time.
And I had to look twice as well to be sure.
This shows how a little modification to a fake can turn it into a new clasp.

The patina and wear is very credible, but it's still the same fake.

        Best regards,
        ben

May be a little off the topic...
but I'm just wondering, I've seen Detlev has "approved" a few fake stuff... Why are they "the one" that collectors always use as a standard? I've seen a lot of collectors think if Detlev says it's good then it must be good...

Well, in fact this is a dangerous situation, especially to new collectors.

you can't buy anymore based on a COA.

All dealers have an occasional glitch, no problem.
But this is becoming to much...
I have always regarded Detlev Niemann as one of the most knowledgeable and trustworthy dealers around, but over the past months the number of "mistakes" has reached an alarming high level.
I don't know what happened there......

Buy the item, not the COA.

            Best regards,
            ben
