I don't think you can tell from this photo. If I had to GUESS, I would say K&Q.

This particular cross was awarded on 17-07-1942. Am I correct to assume that would be a very early date for a K&Q?

Yes, that would be early for a K&Q, but not impossible, I suppose. But, as I said, it's a GUESS!

P.S. The ring's interior diameter looks too small for the entire loop to pass through and the date looks very slightly angled, which reminds me of K&Q. Photo really is too blurry, which in turn makes things look exaggerated. Could be a Juncker or S&L, as well. Just no way to tell for sure.

The photos is really to bad to say, but as a pure guess I'd say Schickle, based solely on the loop eye.
