The EK2 you have is a nice S&L 1st frame and core .

I have an early S&L ek2 like that... just with a bit darker frame, and with the same blue color + the glossy paint. Very nice

Early pieces mainly from S&L show this nice rainbow coloring on the lacquered frame . As much as one can tell probably 40/41 made with machanicly applied frosting on German silver frame , ...... the only way to more efficiantly produce crosses in larger numbers . Coin silver planchets were used starting in 39 for a few months until silver was restricted and reserved for RKs only . Frosting therefor is a bright white type as can be seen on mine below , which was still produced by the labor intensive early full hand finishing method . Good for a one time order but not substainable on a large procuction scale .
These early lacquered crosses however should not be hand touched and kept out of any direct light ! ... as the frame will slowly continue to darken and the coating breaks down .

                    Steiner :
Very nice S&L type 2nd frame and 2nd core , somewhere late 40/ 41 made , German silver frame with a high grade silver plating lacquered frame and high sheen paint !!! Advanced and improved manufacturing , .. as by the time yours was made , wider beading and more durable paint . Most early manufacturers show different manufacturing stages .
Put both side by side ... quite a contrast .

Eric: You can't go wrong on that early S&L ek2. It's just too nice. And the condition is perfect.

Also, I have a question about these early S&L's... are all early S&L's unmarked?
