I once had a fairly common recon flight clasp that I left with a jeweler to repair a bent pin. When I picked it up, he had polished (and ruined) it. Someone has been at this cross with a mechanical polisher.

      Hi,
details make me think it is an unmarked Foerster & Barth (L/21) manufactured cross. Except the pin which has an odd form. I agree it seems the cross has been over-polished .

I think it was probably a silver class with all the silver finish removed and the base metal super buffed to make it appear gold.

I'm with Bob as well, a nice piece but it has been heavily polished.

The catch looks like the ones used on the L/15 marked crosses but they use a smaller block hinge. The pin looks like a replacement, I've never seen one shaped like that, plus it looks polished as well.

I think it is a very nice cross.

                  Hello Guys,

I've purchased this cross from Tom. I'm no expert with these crosses and was unaware this thread existed before I purchased it. The purchase price was $750. With all the opinions voiced in this thread do you think I overpaid?

I know Tom is a good guy but such a investment is always scary when you read so many "questions" about a badge/medal.

                  Thank you,
                  Mike

Mike, as long as you are aware many feel it has been polished, that's the key I suppose.

                      Hi Darrell,

Do you think it was a Silver version that was polished to the basemetal? I don't think so but that was one of the questions posed. Do you think the pin was replaced too?

                      Mike

I'm not sure it was a silver. The reverse doesn't appear to be polished, just the obverse. What is strange is the pin is very silver. Maybe the gold buffed off. Better pictures may reveal more, but I'd be willing to bet an original gold (or bronze).

My thoughts are that it is a Gold version, just that the front has been polished. The reverse shows the Gold finish with the Patina one would expect on a +60 year old badge.

                          Thanks

The pin setup reminds of S&L ??? Do not have any of that type to compare with .
Robert was asking for a list . Here is an old one I had from here .

I think for that price you won't easily find bronze grade, so I think it's more than fair price

                              Best regards
                              Arsen

                                Which Tom?
                                "Tom of Finland"?
                                "Tom of Norway"?
