I don't remember the thread this comparison was in, or for what purpose. Are they both 'suspect' pieces, or one original?

The spange on the right in post 5 is an L/58-marked pillow-spange presented by Bob Hritz. I believe Dietrich personally examined this and an EKII pillow spange, and found that they were marked. The spange to the left could possibly be a variant by the same maker. There are very many similarities.

but don't forget Dietrich picked that one up from the estand for about $20 from a seller who described it as a flat out fake

and don't forget this little nugget:
"I would also like to point out that in the 1960's Souval made these pieces with this type of pin set up on the reverse. I got a set from Paul Peters in Cincinnati (sold as a fake set, no attempt to pass off as real) when I was a young teenager since I couldn't afford the real deal. The first class was marked with the L/58 and the second class was devoid of markings."

but I'm open to souval madness of course. within reason

                          regards

I see. Thanks Ben and jon. This news puts them both into a whole new category, and no longer 'suspect'.
