    Souval Cross - EK2??

    Hi all

Just thought id share this one.

From the reserch iv done, i think it may be a Souval Cross. It have all the trademerkes as per the artical on Souval Frames.

    - made of thre pieces. The inner core rattles if you shacke it enough
    - Makers mark = 98
    - The 3 in 1939 does not dip lower that the rest of the numbers and they arnt sittin on the frame.
-the loop that hols the ring is fixed on the fron and not connected on the back, there is a small gap and you can see a circular mark under it.
-the beeding has the "bird foot" in the corners.

As i understand . the Souval factory carryd on makeing Crosses to meet the demand from souvineers from the ocupieing forces...

so my question is two fold,

    1.) Is this a Souval EK2

2.) How do i know if it is period or a "souvineer"

    Regards
    Nick

You've done well in desribing a Souval EKII. As per whether it was period-produced, I've heard there is a flaw on the beading at 12:00 connecting two or three beads. Perhaps someone else can fonfirm this.

      IMO an original war piece

At the moment I only know post war pieces by Souval with maker mark "L/58" and unusual "Souval" frame.

It looks like a good, original example to me and I think the flaw is visible just in from the left.

on closer inspection i spoted the flaws the the dies made...

          Question.

i live close to the cost. and i think the rust is getting worse on this EK, is there any way of protecting it,? can i spray it will a q20 lubricant?

The poor 'L/58'-marked EKI Souvals sure take a trashing. We've had (2) of these that have come from vets as original issued pieces, and still they have a bad name.

It's an original wartime piece. Mine is just like yours, except mine is unmarked.

Do NOT spray anything on it. If you're worried about rust due to your location near the coast, store it in a small ziplock bag; it will be sealed, yet you'll be able to remove it to look at it.

I store my entire EK collection in Reicher mounts, which I place inside of an airtight Pelican case, which then goes inside my gun safe.
