I don't read Hungarian so I don't know the size of this item. If its a full size EK2 I would get it because I like weird, offbeat pieces; but I wouldn't pay more that 20 euro. If its a mini I would pass on it...

                  Fake

                  Hi guys,

Well, after looking at it for a few minutes I have to agree that it is junk. However, I tend to think fake rather than front made as it appears to have several casting lines on it and I can't see that being something a soldier would have the time, inclination or equipment to accomplish at a front line position. In addition, EKII were common and readily available in most areas so one would have to ask them selves why anyone would go to such lengths. All IMHO of course.

                  Regards,
                  Stu

I agree - EK2s were only worn in the field on the day it was received, and then put away or shipped home, the soldier wearing either the ribbon bar or the ribbon through the second buttonhole.

Keep in mind that there were mechanics and other people around who had to keep the machines going and I'm sure that they had the capability to cast metal; like a mobile version of the shop on a large ship. The fact that there's no telling the circumstances of this items production nor who it was given to makes it an act of faith or disbelief when considering its value. I like this cross as a curiosity but as I said, if its not a full scale version of an EK2 forget about it and not worth more than 20 euro...

Then again, it could have been made by a biker back in the 1960s, who can tell!

Here's an interesting shop made EK1 for which it is impossible to determine its origin or destination. In order to denazify it the swastika was filled in with molten brass. Its a fair casting job. I don't have a picture handy but its cast from an EK2 and has two pins on the back (I can post one if anyone cares) I have seen fully legit but bastardized EKs with holes drilled in the same spots, for what reason I have no idea.
