      Spange

Either a Raptor or Floch. What is the mark on the pin? Jim

whats the typical Floch signs on a clasp? the pin? the catch/hinge? any details on the other side? the date perhaps?
I'm just trying to learn, to avoid being Floched.

if you memorize the head, and in particular the beak, you will recognize them right away.

                  Best regards,

The easiest thing is to remember that reverse hard ware with the incuse-relief maker mark. Dead give away.

Better yet study the originals and buy them

                      Study them both.
if you don't know the fakes, sooner or later you will buy one.
Everybody is always looking for variations, and that is dangerous if you don't know the fakes.

At least once a week a Floch is posted for opinions, that is my proof.

                      Best regards.

i think if you stick with a trusted dealer, like detlev, you will be ok! even if you pay a bit more, its worth it, piece of mind is priceless!!

Well, if you put blind faith in any dealer, you might end up with some fakes as well.

Do your homework, make an archive for yourself (there are plenty of pics from both good and bad clasps) and study whatever you are looking for.
Study is the most important thing to avoid disappointment..

                          Best regards,
                          Ben

yes, i suppose you are right there, what i meant was, dont buy off the local market trader, thinking you are getting a bargain, cos 99 times out of a 100, you wont!!!

                              Spange

I collect Spanges and without the aid of Ben and Jon I would have bought a couple of fakes. There are several dealers who currently have fakes on their sites. The best thing is if you are interested request permission to post the pictures here first. Stay away from anything the is marked L21 (no such bird). Jon (Tinmantis) posted an article on who made spanges. If it is not listed it wasn't made. Jim
