Tips for your first Knight's Cross please!

    Greetings!

I have a goal to aquire a Knight's Cross within the next year, and would be very grateful for the experts advice on aquiring one. I know NOT to buy from Snyder, Epier or Gun Broker so we are covered there.

I have the excellent book "The Iron Time" and plan to pick up Herr Maerz's Knight's Cross Bible at the SOS.

My first question is market value. On one site I see an un-named KC without a ribbon for about $11,000 and on another an entire KC grouping (his other medals, documents, photos, etc.) for $12,000.

What I really want is a battle worn KC with ribbon. Not mint - no case. It doesn't have to be named.

What does a KC like this sell for these days?

    Thank you!

    Mike

    Hello, sdkfz247,
Buy all the books you can, read all the posts here and elsewhere you can.
I certainly recommend Dietrich's book at the top of the list, but this is a difficult area and you need to study EVERYTHING before diving in.
Pricing? As the Euro falls against the Dollar (and both are going crazy now), there are deals to be found. It is my personal opinion that most RK's have been overpriced in the last year or two. Except for the rare 3/4 ring model, I believe an unattributed real RK, in decent condition, should command $6-7000. Attributed ones, with rock solid provenance, will vary greatly depending upon the recipient. By example, one to a Nightfighter ace might be worth more than one to an Army sergeant (or maybe not!).
    Good luck,
    Leroy

Snyders site must be the worse site ever. I checked the EK1s there and found 95% fakes, ugly nasty fakes, flochs, etc you name it, he sold it

I even saw this L/26 KC or something like that

If you are thinking of buying only one KC I would buy a nice Juncker KC.
The price will be around 9000 to 15000 US$ depending on which variant of the Juncker KC you want!

        Best regards

          Juncker all the way!

Lot for 12000 $ of documents and medals? That you mean everything else but no RK,...so total is 23.000$? That is quite a load but if you have all together avaleable, you shouldnt split the lot

As for RK actualy being part of the lot is nawdays quite dificult to be 100% sure. Bussines is on the first place, so I think that many lots are put together to make them more interesting. Real things are already in collections and they will stay there for sure So all this must be taken with lot of reserve.
