Just experience and my personal opinion. I never saw a 62 in another case when acquired directly from a vet family. I owned four 62 Tombak crosses, all in named cases. Two of those I sold on the e-stand.

One might argue that later war, zink 62s, like George´s, were presented in different cases. Possible. But yours is an early Tombak 62 and belongs IMO in an Kerbach & Oesterhelt case.
Another logic point against your case being a 62 case is: why change the case design if not for economical reasons? Economically changing to your type case does not make sense because it is at least as well made as an Kerbach & Oesterhelt case.

Btw, I do think your case is a doubtless original, just not the right case for that maker´s cross. Just in case you thought I was putting your case down.

I think the flaw in your logic is that the company made their own cases, or that is implied.

Look at all the EK1 and Luft cases. Most appear made by the same company. Stock changes as suppliers change.

The cut out on the case is for this style pin. Common style, yes.

I can't discuss the origin of this cross so I really don't know. I have a cross in a case and that's the way I got it in the early 90's.

Don´t worry Brian, it is still a nice original cross in a nice original case and only in my opinion not matching. Let´s put it that way.

And of course you could be right, could be wrong... Of one thing I can state with confidence, we will never know.
