          Spange

Thanks everyone, I had ordered it and when you said it was a fake I cancelled the order, for which the dealer told me he would never sell to me again. His loss. JIm

            Jim:

Your interpretation of events are a misrepresentation of what happened.

You resereved the badge and said you would send payment, I put the badge aside for you and the next day you cancelled the order saying you had posted it on the WA forum and that it was declared a fake.

I then emailed you explaining that you could have given me the courtesy of asking me to post the item. I would of course have said yes.

When I read this thread I immediately pulled the piece from my site at www.germanwarbooty.com and it is my financial loss--no big deal as even if you had found out a year from now that it was bad you would have gotten your money back from me that I can assure you. I had bought a collection of about 100 badges of which I recognized 2 as fakes, one being a Memel of the non-accepted style and the second being a raptor ek1 spange.

I think my badge count on my site is up to over 2300 pieces and I would be lying if I told you that I was perfect in recognizing every single fake, but I will say that if a fake such as this spange is found it will be pulled and I will gladly take the loss and the listing of such an item was un-intended, I just ask the courtesy to be treated as you would treat another collector or as you would like to be treated. Nobody likes to have their chain yanked. I have been in this hobby way too long and will be in it for many more years to come and I let a lot of things pass, it just seems that common courtesy has gone away at times.

Maybe I am making a big deal out of nothing here, I do not know, if I do I apologize to you Jim and to the membership. I think I need a break from the forums for a few days...see everyone who is going to the MAX...stop by and say hi, I will have a table, not selling anything, but I will have a table set up with my friend who will be selling a few items.

JohnT IS one of the good guys

I've lost count of how many repros appear on 'top' dealer sites. But that's not the point, do your homework on every single item you purchase, get a money back guarrantee and post your spangen here first!
              regards

Yes, jon, that is the acceptable approach. I have never yet been questioned by one dealer when I've asked them to place an item on hold, and requesting the time needed for me to do some 'homework'. Most dealers have the time to allow for this. Communication skills are vital in helping minimize troublesome ordeals. In this business of buying from dealers I think we take things for granted that should be addressed, such as dealer consideration. Every dealer has parameters, or 'guidelines' that they work by with their customers to keep their business running smoothly. We should find out what they are, and live up to them the best we can. Sometimes we run into walls where neither side is happy. This happens in business. During these times it's probably better to put off for tomorrow the things we need to think through fully, especially when things get heated and relationships are threatened. I honestly think we have the ability to find a peaceful resolve given the time. We as collectors, and I think dealers as well, want to stay connected with one another. We need each other now more than ever.
