    My first schinkel EK1

    hello all

well after a lot of searching I finally obtained for myself a very beaten up one piece Schinkel EK1.

I am very happy with it; i like them rough and i haggled a price I was happy with.

I have not seen such a cross in person before. It is one piece, looks to have a brass finish under the silver but then it looks like there is iron underneath the brass.

    the cross is magnetic

Im very confused: i know brass EK1's are not magnetic, however Is it known for there to be Schinkel EKs to have an iron core , then brass then silver finish on top?

    I will post pictures asap

    thanks

    Dave

    Hi Dave,

    your description is very good:
One-piece iron schinkel / brass plated / silver plated with a painted core.

    Beat up in what way?
    Paint loss??
That is pretty common with these crosses, paint bonds very bad to the silver plating

They also come non-magnetic, not sure what the base-metal is in that case.

    Best regards,
    Ben

      Hi Ben

      thanks for you're reply

well its semi rough condition; denazified and repaired catch.

it is perfectly vaulted and inspite of all the knocks and denazification it has become one of my favorite pieces straight away.

for the price it was a good starter for me

I think I have fallen for Schinkel EKs I can see why you have a few of them!

im at work right now and not ment to be on the net i'll get some pictures as soon as I can

      cheers

      Dave

          the back
you can see the resoldered catch. I dont think it is the original catch.
