    Clam Shell fake or??

OK I'm not a clam shell guy or have studied them, but ran across this for a might-be-good-deal, so thought I might pick it up if good?

    any response would be great.

    thanks greg

That is a fake. You can find them with L/54 markings and needles as well. You can view at least one of these fakes in the fake gallery. The crude ribbing ((((( with flaws and the non straight 1939 date should be remembered.

thanks Peter, thats what I thought, to bad, but OH well...

I just didn't like the feel, or the shell altogether really, so off to the owner or junk pile (it was going to be a trade item)

any idea who might have made these??

            thanks again

There are legitimate versions out there, I believe attributed to Deumer. Here is mine. You can see the core is a Deumer and it is copper coated, like many early Deumers. The core is different than yours. I believe these to be early examples, using old 20's and 30's stock for the clamshell.
