    strange L58 screwback?

    Hi All
Would like to get opinions on this 1st class EK L58 screwback? It has a lot of characteristics of an accepted original but it also has a few oddities from what I have researched so far? The pointed device to stop rotation on the uniform is on the bottom of the cross not the top? There is an obvious bevel on the bottom arm of the cross which is either poor Souval workmanship or who knows what? All opinions are welcome. The weight is 20.2 grams, cross 16.5 Gr, screwplate 3.6gr.
    magnetic centre, 3pc construction.

Your cross looks to be an original Souval SB. The 'bevel' you are referring to, is this on the core? Souval cores are commonly poorly fitted to the frames as can be seen on all arms of my cross...

I wouldn't be too concerned about the anti-rotation pin being at the bottom...a small mistake.

                  2&3

                  Thanks Robert
If you look at the bottom of the cross in Pics 2&3 you can see from the reverse that the edge is almost filed at a 45% angle. There is no sign of grinding or malicious damage but most I have seen are pretty much at a 90% angle?
Perhaps a disgruntled employee or a Monday?

Thank you. Now I see the bevel. Your guess is as good as mine on this. First the pin on the bottom and then the filed edge...???

It looks like a fine example to me. It just has a little bit of personality.

                        Thanks guys

I think so too George. How does it compare weightwise to your and Robert's examples? Just wondering. It has all the proper signs of being a period piece.

What do the other edges look like, could it be that the cross has been split apart and then put back together with the back plate upside down and slightly off centre causing the bevel edge ??
