It was clearly not authorized! However, it is always tough to argue with one's own lying eyes.
Oh, I still remember when I showed the cross to a well-known German dealer in 1993 in Dortmund at the "Waffenboerse". First he saw the obverse and said "It's not Silver". The he turned it around and nearly started to beat me up. His reaction was the same as I would have insulted him very, very heavy. Guess he couldn't cope with reality. A really hissy-fit!
Meanwhile the 'acceptance' in the German circles has progressed so far that the existence is acknowledged BUT (since the wreath is clearly what it is supposed to be...) the reasoning is now that a gold version was disassembled and the wreath was silvered and the whole thing was put together again...privatly and under cover of the Gestapo, of course. Now why somebody doing this would put a price tag on will be explained in the next 10 years ...
So, Don my friend, you and I we have re-assembled examples. And the other ones I have on file are also re-assembled.
I don't think so!
As if "The Germans" would have followed all the rules and regulations and therefore - what is clearly in front of your eyes and is against the regulations - is just not right or doesn't even exist! Doooh
Dietrich
PS: Kahki, so the German source, was also against regulations ... Guess they weren't in Afrika and Italy after all ....
