            I also enjoy these type of items, I do not encounter these very often and I think this practice must have been quite limited during the war. Here is one more cross to bring up this old thread. I got this from a veteran's family, with other items. Unfortunately the hinge and pin are long gone.

                The catch is crudely made from a snipped piece of brass. I think pieces like this have a lot of character.
