the black cloth backing was not for SS but for Panzer.
Dietrich
sure dear Dietrich, normally black cloth is for panzer units ( I have me too one ) but you must consider we speak about a silver grade, normally given for civil or para-military services ( even if I know for sure that one was winner of one in gold and one in silver, SHOWED BOTH IN THE UNIFORM! ) and black uniform for para-military were SS Allgemeine.

Hi Ivan,
I see what you are saying. However, since this type was never officially approved I seriously doubt that somebody from the Allgemeine SS would have sewed one to its' tunic - more so since he might not need to do that. Remember, the cloth version was for use in confinded spaces where the actual order might be damaged. The only confined space an Allgemeine SS man might have been was the cellars of the Gestapo
It's unofficial but I'm still happy that I have it!
this has become a very good thread but would it help if a cloth thread was started for cloth and the metal kept separatly for future referance only an idea guys
